The Mission of Westside
Unitarian Universalist Church is to make a positive difference in the lives of
our members, our families, and the world at large through supportive
relationships, religious explorations, and social action.
The church’s Vision is
to grow and become a more influential liberal religious presence through
active [service] in our community and the world at large.
Members of our
congregation are active in the greater
Fort Worth community. The charge
of the Social Justice Committee is to seek ways that the congregation, as a
whole, can impact the community through social action and direct service to
further the mission and vision of Westside Unitarian Universalist Church. We
envision the Social Justice Committee as the focal point for congregational
action and service under the direction of the church board. The goal of the
committee is to be effective and action oriented. The Unitarian Universalist
Church has a number of Statements of Social Conscience (positions) and two
Study Action Issues (Prison Reform and Global Warming) to help frame committee
activities.
Two topics that we have
studied to date are civil liberties and factors in global warming. The link to
our Position paper on civil liberties in regards the Patriot Act is
