Whitney Young Class
Ages 7 through 12

This year we will be exploring our UU identity through the curriculum “The Spirit of Adventure”.  We will be learning without the usual arts and crafts projects.  Instead, we’ve got activities like dissecting a computer, building architecture using jello, eating smoked oysters, and singing Jingle Bells in “dog” language!

We have themes such as:

SPORTS:  “I believe we’re all one family and need each other in times of grief and gladness.  And I believe in the power of human ingenuity and people of goodwill to make a difference in the world.  This is my credo as a Unitarian Universalist.  It’s what Superman and I have in common.”  --Christopher Reeves, Actor

MEDICINE:  “I have no enemies.”  --Clara Barton, Founder of the American Red Cross

FOOD:  Use the guidance of reason and the results of science, as applied to food. –Fannie Farmer, domestic scientist and cookbook author.

SCIENCE:  “Unitarian Universalists are people who are concerned about all the things which your favorite religion is concerned about, but allow or even require their belief to be compatible with reason. : --Tim Berners, Father of the World Wide Web

BUILDING:  “I have endeavored to remember that the object of life is to do good.” –Peter Cooper, Engineer

Don’t miss the fun as we learn about famous UUs, our UU principles, and how to apply them in the world in a most dynamic way!
