Up and Coming

Upcoming Events and Special Announcements

In-person gatherings are suspended until at least July 31, 2020.  Services will continue on Zoom and the recorded services will continue to be posted on our Sermons page and on our YouTube channel.   A task force from the Board is developing recommendations for safe re-opening of the church in the future.  We will continue to keep you updated as decisions are made.

Upcoming Service

July 12, 2020   “UUSC - Justice Sunday”

In times of crisis such as we are living through now, looking to moments in our shared history when we rose to the challenges before us can offer important lessons – as well as hope. Please join us for a special virtual UUSC Sunday with UUSC President and CEO, Rev. Mary Katherine Morn, as we explore how congregations have brought our Unitarian Universalist values to the fight for human rights since UUSC’s founding in May of 1940. We will be on our normal Zoom channel at 10:00am.

Last Week's Service

“Why Hope?” by Rev. Karen Hutt

Rev Karen Hutt.jpgIn worship service led by Carol Cappa, we'll hear words of Rev. Karen Hutt, Adjunct Minister at First Universalist Church in Minneapolis. She offers a personal and prophetic reflection on racism in America, drawing on generations of black experience in her family. Rev. Hutt's sermon, delivered on May 31 after George Floyd's murder, is shared with permission; per her request, we will be donating the speaking honorarium to a local black-led justice organization. Join us to reconnect with the Westside community, listen to this powerful voice, sing together, and renew your own Fire of Commitment to racial justice.

Upcoming Services

July 19, 2020 "Animal Blessing" with Caroline Nixon

On Sunday, July 19, we will be following a tradition practiced in many UU churches worldwide, the Animal Blessing ceremony.  Whatever your feelings about companion animals, I hope you will find something in the service that is enlightening about animals and our interactions with them, and maybe even experience the ‘warm and fuzzy’ feeling often brought on by our animals. Seeing photos of some of our members’ pets should be a joy. So come and join us for this service.  We are asking that you send a clear photo of you and your pet (or just the pet), along with the pet’s name and the owner’s name(s).  If you have multiple animals, and you can get them all in one photo, please do so. If not, submit multiple photos with appropriate names.  Please send the photos, no later than Tuesday July 14, 2020pets@westsideuu.org

July 26, 2020 at 10:00 am   “Covenant Groups” with Debby Rake
