Coming Home: Building Dignity Through Community

When I lost nearly everything—my parents, my sister, my best friend, and eventually my own health—I never imagined that volunteering at a small nonprofit would become the path back to purpose. In this talk, I’ll share my unexpected journey to leading Fort Worth Community Collaborative, how a series of personal losses reshaped my understanding of community, and why we believe meeting basic needs should always begin with dignity. Together, we’ll explore how listening to our neighbors transformed a clothing closet into a comprehensive basic needs organization, and why creating spaces where every person feels seen, welcomed, and respected is one of the most powerful forms of service we can offer.
